Are you applying your skin care products in the right order?

Does it matter if you're applying your skin care products in the right order?

The answer is YES!

You might have the most amazing skin care routine in the world but if your applying them in the wrong order, it can prevent your skin from receiving the full benefits. with all the serums, moisturisers and toners out there it can get seriously overwhelming figuring out the right order in which to apply them.

  • cleanser -
start your morning of with a gentle cleanser. rinse and repeat this step to get rid of every scrap of dirt from your skin. the first cleanse gets rid of the surface grime, while the second cleanse gets right into your pores.
  • toner -
so using a toner is a great way to finish of the first step and to ensure that all dirt and oils are wiped away. skipping toner make all the effort of the first steps pointless as residual dirt may still remain.
  • serum (optional) -
I think that everyone can benefit from incorporating a serum into their routine. they're are essential for those who have dry or dehydrated skin as an underneath layer for creams and oils. serums are a great solution for dull skin, fine lines and uneven skin tone. the general rule with face creams is that your should start with the lightest products first so they absorb in to the skin quicker.
  • eye cream -
most people think that eye cream goes on after your moisturiser, when in fact it goes on before. much like serums they are very thin in consistency so they are going to absorb into the skin quicker. with the skin around your eyes being very different to the rest of your face and being very thin, you want to take care of that area of your face.
  • moisturiser -
moisturisers can help quench dry skin and also double as an eye cream. if your skin is normal to oily, you may be able to get away with a serum alone as not everyone will needs a moisturiser. keep in mind that when moisturiser are to heavy and rich that they can sometimes trigger breakouts.
  • facial oil (optional) -
not everyone has to use a oil, but if you do. it should always be after your moisturiser and should be the last step in your routine. this is because it acts like a barrier. locking in the benefits of the moisturiser and the other products. applying oils over time can really improve the state of your skin.

I hope this helps everyone with their routine. when coming to your routine the general rule is to apply your products from thinnest to thickest in consistency. anything light will have an easier time absorbing into your skin, while anything thicker and creamier should be left till last to lock everything in.

let me know in the comments of this works for you!
